It did not come from nowhere. It came from years of travelling.
It started with a half-hour documentary
Next Step was founded in Bangkok in 1988.
Our motto is "Building a learning society."
In 2000, our programme Samrujlok (Explore the World) began airing. It was a half-hour documentary.
The idea behind this method started there.
One student's story
In 2000, a student watched a documentary about the F-15 fighter jet on Samrujlok.
He set his mind on becoming a pilot.
Today he is a captain with a commercial airline.
I believe that when children see enough examples, they can choose their own path.
The scholarships that followed
The Samrujlok Foundation and Assumption University offered undergraduate scholarships from 2001.
More than 300 in all.
Seeing how others do it
I have visited and talked with leading public and documentary broadcasters.
BBC, NHK, PBS, ZDF, ABC Australia, and several more.
Speaking to the industry
In 2019, I spoke at two industry conferences.
Video Exchange Asia in May, and APSCC in November.
Links to the clips from both are on nextstep.tv.
One of them is titled "Next Step กับแนวคิดการพัฒนาเด็กไทย" (Next Step and the idea of developing Thai children).
Next Step today
Today Next Step works through Thainess, Doxzilla and Good TV.
The story of each channel is on nextstep.tv.
Next Step Studios makes our own documentaries.
What stays in this method
Let children see enough examples. Then let them choose.
We do not teach a goal. We open the world and let our children choose.
That is the Amornphat Method.
